Visitors will find much to see and do in the Victorian seaside of Llandudno, Conwy. The town is situated between Colwyn Bay and Bangor in North Wales. The Bronze Age Copper Mines and Victorian Pier are two of the most popular sites in Llandudno. The Copper Mines have only been recently discovered. Tours are offered and include a discussion of the mine as well as exhibits of the tools that have been found in excavations of the mine. The pier is considered to be among the best in Wales. Visitors will also find plenty of shops and restaurants in the local area.
Llandudno is a seaside resort in Conwy on the northern coast of Wales. It is the largest seaside resort in the country and is often referred to as the Queen of Welsh Resorts. It has been a popular destination since Victorian times.
The town has a two mile long beach that stretches between the headlands of Great and Little Orme. There is a promenade, known as the Parade, stretching along most of this length of seafront. Many of the towns' hotels are located on this, so you will be close to the sea when you stay in Llandudno.
Llandudno pier is the longest pier in Wales and stretches for 2,295 feet. Because it is so well preserved, the pier is often used as a film location and was recently featured in the "Forsythe Saga".
For a scenic view of the town, it is well worth visiting Great Orme, which is a prominent headland and overlooks Llandudno Bay. It is also a nature reserve and home to a herd of Kashmir goats who are descendents of the original goats given to the town by Queen Victoria. Bird watchers can see a number of different bird colonies in the area, including many different types of sea birds. The Great Orme also has a number of wells that still supply running water to local areas. One of the easiest ways to reach the top of the headland is on the Great Orme Tramway, which is the last remaining street tramway in Britain. It has been taking visitors to the summit since it was built in 1902.
If you are planning to stay in Llandudno in May, the town is home to a three day Victorian Carnival with some of the streets turned into a fairground and a daily carnival parade. During the carnival, many people dress up in Victorian costumes and there are steam engines, bands and town criers to look at.
