Llanberis, located in Gwynedd, is situated in northern Wales. One of the most interesting and popular sights to see while in the town are the ruins of Dolbadarn Castle. The castle is considered to be one of the finest Welsh castles. Visitors should also make sure they see the Welsh state museum while in town as well. Llanberis is a Welsh village located in Gwynedd, North Wales. The village is located on the banks of Llyn Padarn within the area of Snowdonia. The village takes its name from Saint Peris, an early Welsh saint.
The village has a population of about one thousand nine hundred and fifty four and about eighty one per cent of the population speak fluent welsh and all children aged between ten and fifteen years of age are able to speak Welsh.
The village of Llanberis has been featured in some films including carry on up the Khyber and there is a plaque at the visitor centre that commemorates this.
The town was historically known for its quarrying of slate however the quarries are now closed. The main employers within the village today are within the tourism sector and also the Dinorwig power station. Dinorwig power station is a pumped storage hydroelectric station.
The ruins of the Dolbadam Castle are within the village. The castle was constructed by Llywelyn ap lorweth during the thirteenth century. The castle once stood above the town, as it is famous for being painted by J.M.W Turner and Richard Wilson.
The village of Llanberis is a popular location for people who are planning to climb Snowdon. Snowdon is the highest mountain in Wales. The Llanberis path starts in the town however this is one of the longest routes so therefore it is shallowest and the easiest. The most popular route for people that are climbing Snowdon is to follow the route of the Snowdon Mountain railway.
