The English town of Wasdale is located within the valley on the western side of the national park that is known as the Lake District. The river that is known as Irt flows through the valley and the estuary of the river is at Ravenglass. A big part of the main floor of the valley is occupied by a lake, which is known as Wastwater and this actually the deepest lake in England and its depth is two hundred and fifty eight feet. The walls of the valley on the southeastern side of the lake are actually very steep and they lead to the summits of Illgill Head and Whin Rigg.
The mountains that are known as the Great Gable mainly dominate the top of the valley and the highest peak in England is located in this area and it is known as Scafell Pike. Scafell Pike along with Yewbarrow and Kirk Feel surround the small community that is known as Wasdale Head. Close to this small community is the church that is known as St Olaf's and this is one of the smallest churches in England. The town of Wasdale is a very famous area and it is popular with rock climbers as it is the actually known as the home of Rock climbing in Britain. Further down in the valley are the villages that are known as Gosforth and Nether Wasdale.
There is a vast number of fells around the town of Wasdale and the surrounding area and these include Seatallen, Buck barrow, Middle Fell and Yewbarrow to name a few.
