The English town of Thame is located in the district of Oxfordshire. The town of Thame is located about seven miles south west of Aylesbury. The name of the town derives from the famous River Thames.
The town of Thames was established during the Anglo Saxon times and this was originally founded as the Kingdom of Wessex. The Thames Abbey within the town was established during 1138 for the use of the Cistercian Order and then it was consecrated during 1145.
The biggest employers within the town of Thames are the Travelodge and CMP Group and both of these companies have their head offices on the outskirts of the town. Since 2005 the W. Lucy and Co company have been based within the town.
Every year on the third Thursday in September there is an agricultural show held and this show is known as the Oxfordshire County and Thame Show. This agricultural show is actually the biggest one-day event of this type within the United Kingdom.
Every year on the third Thursday in September the town also hosts its three-day fair event within the centre of the town. Every year during October there is also smaller fairs held within the parking area on the upper part of the High Street.
The town of Thame has a strong educational network that consists of three primary schools that are known as John Hampden, Barley Hill and also St Joseph's that is a catholic primary school. The town also features one high school, which is known as Lord Williams.
