Alice Liddell is the person that inspirited the character of Alice in the very popular story of Alice's Adventure in Wonderland that was written by Lewis Carroll. Alice Liddell is buried within the graveyard of the church of St Michael and Angels that is located in the village.
The church within the village is a popular landmark that is built from a vast number of different colours. The church is located at one of the highest areas of Lyndhurst. The church was built during the 1860's and it contains an spectacular fresco that was completed by Lord Leighton and the stained glass was done by William Morris, Edward Burne-Jones and Charles Kempe to name a few.
The village is home to the administrative centre for New Forest and the local district council is based in the village. The forestry commission is based within the village at the Queens House.
