During 2003 the town won the competition that is known as Britain in Bloom under the small town category.
During 1798 the Gloucester and Hereford Canal was opened and this canal runs for Gloucester up as far as Ledbury passing through the lower parts of the town. The canal later closed during 1885 and this route was then used by Great Western Railways for the line that operates between Gloucester and Ledbury.
