The English market town of Hebden Bridge is located within the area of Calderdale in West Yorkshire. The market town forms part of the valley that is known as Upper Calder and it is located about eight miles west of the town of Halifax and about fourteen miles to the north of Rochdale. The town of Hebden Bridge is located at the confluence where the River Hebden and the River Calder meet. The ward that is known as Calder Valley and covers the areas of Old Town, Hebden Bridge and also part of Todmorden has a population of about eleven thousand five hundred and the town of Hebden Bridge itself has a population of about four thousand five hundred.
The urban district of Hebden Bridge was formed in 1891 and it merged with the urban district of Mytholmroyd in 1937 and the areas then became known as the urban district of Hebden Royd. Hebden Bridge was once part of the West Riding part of Yorkshire. All of these were abolished and replaced by the 1972 Local Government Act and then the Metropolitan County of West Yorkshire, the Metropolitan Borough of Calderdale and also the civil parish town of Hebden Royd replaced them.
