The English market town of Guisborough is located within the borough that is known as Cleveland and Redcar. The town is located in the ceremonial county that is known as North Yorkshire. The civil parish that is part of Guisborough has a residential population of about eighteen thousand one hundred and eight and this incorporates the town and the nearby villages of Newton under Roseberry, Dunsdale and Upleatham.
The town of Guisborough has a strong educational network that consists of five primary schools, two junior schools and also one secondary school. There is also a sixth form college within the town. The sixth form college is located next to the parish church, which is known as St Nicholas. The college is on the site where the old grammar school used to be.
The town of Guisborough can be accessed from two main roads, which are the A173 and also the A171. The A171 roads lead west to the town of Middlesborough and to the east to the town of Whitby. The A173 runs southwest to the town of Stokesley and northeast to the town of Skelton. Prior to the bypass being built the traffic from both the roads had to pass through the area that is known as Westgate and this are is home to the main street of the town.
Several years ago there were two main employers within the town of Guisborough and these are The Shirt Factory and also the Blackett Hutton Steel Works. Toward the end of the life of the factory it was taken over by Montague Burton from Leeds.
