Grasmere is an English village that is located within the area of central Cumbria. Grasmere is the name of the lake that is adjacent to the village. The village of Grasmere is located within the heart of the English Lake District and it is a very popular tourist location. The famous poet that is called William Wordsworth lived in the village of Grasmere for about fourteen years and he described it as the most beautiful location that man has ever found. William Wordsworth lived in a cottage that was called Dove Cottage. The inn that is located within the nearby village of Townsend is where William Wordsworth used to have breakfast with Sir Walter Scott at this time it was called The Swan.
Helm Crag that is a small hill that is rocky overlooks the village. The hill has also been called both the old lady and the piano or the lion and the lamb. The name for the hills is taken from the shape formation of the rocks and what you call it depends on the position that you are looking at it from.
There is a few very good fell runs that start only a few minutes away from the main part of the village and this includes the ascents from up the Helm Crag area or the route that is longer and leads up to Fairfield.
The village of Grasmere has been host a vast number of famous people over the years and these include Samuel Taylor Coleridge, Sarah Nelson, Sting and Taffy Thomas to name a few. Sting and his wife actually still own a house within the local area.
