The name of the town dates back to the Old English times. Excavations that took place within the town during 1985 uncovered a hill fort that dated back to the Iron Age times about 650BC. There is a wealth of history within the town of Aylesbury. The town played a fairly big part during the English Civil War and this is when it became a strong hold for the Parliamentarian forces.
The modern town of Aylesbury has doubled in population since the 1960's and this has been encouraged with the development of many housing complexes. The northern part of the town is sandwiched between the A41, which is commonly referred to as Akeman Street and the A413.
The heart of the town has an array of public houses and nightclubs. Within the town a Friday and Saturday tend to be very lively. The local newspaper for the town is known as The Bucks Herald. The towns own railway station serves the town and the railway line is part of the main line in and out of London.
There is a vast amount of development planed for the town and it will take place over the next few years. The development plans include building a one thousand two hundred seat theatre.
